Drivers along Ngong Road near The Junction Mall should prepare for evening traffic interruptions as KURA moves into a crucial stage of the new flyover project.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority announced on November 6, 2025, that traffic will be affected nightly from Tuesday, November 18, to Wednesday, December 10, 2025, to allow engineers to install the steel framework for the flyover.
“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to notify the general public of a temporary traffic disruption along Ngong Road around The Junction Mall area effective Tuesday, 18th November 2025 to Wednesday, 10th December 2025,” the authority said.
Work will take place from 8 pm to 5 am each night, excluding Sundays, to limit disturbances to daytime commuters and nearby businesses.
This schedule allows contractors to carry out the lifting and positioning of heavy steel beams safely.
“The disruption is to allow for erection of the steel structure for the flyover currently under construction,” KURA added.
During the construction period, vehicles will be redirected along the stretch between Nairobi City County Training School and the Kenya Science Campus of the University of Nairobi, maintaining two-way traffic.
Traffic officers and marshals will be stationed to guide motorists and maintain safety.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to observe all traffic signs and directions issued by police officers and traffic marshals who will be on site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” the statement noted.
KURA expressed regret for any inconvenience and called for patience from road users as the project progresses.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused as we continue to transform urban mobility,” the authority said.
The Ngong Road flyover is part of a larger plan to improve traffic flow, safety, and commuting efficiency in Nairobi.
Once complete, it is expected to ease congestion around The Junction Mall, a notorious traffic hotspot during rush hours.
Earlier updates from KURA indicate that the four-lane Ngong Road–Naivasha Road flyover, which will include improved junctions, walkways, and cycling lanes, is scheduled for completion by July 2027.
“Construction of the Ngong Rd–Naivasha Rd (Junction Mall) Flyover is well underway! The project features a 4-lane flyover, improved junctions, walkways & cycling lanes, set to ease congestion and boost urban mobility. Completion is set for July 2027,” KURA stated.
The project is part of the broader Ngong Road corridor development, which includes the construction of a dual carriageway and an 800-metre-long bridge.
